Overproduction of Estrogen

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

The adverse signs and symptoms of menopause are caused by an imbalance of the hormones, estrogen and progesterone. This is because an overproduction of estrogen may occur in women during menopause. This can then result in side effects such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings. Fortunately, there are different ways to combat an overproduction of estrogen hormones.

How to Beat an Overproduction of Estrogen

There are three main ways that women can beat an overproduction of estrogen hormones. The way that women chose to overcome their overproduction of estrogen hormones is dependent on the severity of their estrogen surplus.

estrogen-hydrated

For example, if women only have a mild level of overproduction of estrogen they should make healthy lifestyle changes, such as:

  • Practice regular, moderate exercise. It is recommended to exercise for at least a half an hour per day, five times a week.
  • Eat a healthy and varied diet that is filled with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and contains plenty of whole grain fibers
  • Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to keep the body fresh and hydrated Sleep for 7 to 8 hours each night to keep rested and stress free
  • Avoid alcohol
  • It is especially important that women experiencing an overproduction of estrogen quit smoking.

However, if this is not effective, menopausal women should investigate the use of natural supplements to help beat their overproduction of estrogen. These supplements are all natural products that are generally better for women than synthetic hormones. Natural supplements that may combat an overproduction of estrogen contain herbs such as:

  • Black cohosh
  • Soy
  • Macafem
  • Ginseng
  • Gingko biloba
  • Licorice

If these natural supplements do not help you overcome your excess estrogen difficulties, then you should contact your doctors to discuss more serious treatment methods, such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

estrogen-risk

For many women suffering from a severe overproduction of estrogen hormones, the benefits of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can often outweigh the risks. Women should be wary of receiving HRT, because there are greater risks associated with receiving it. For example, if women receive hormone replacement therapy for more than five consecutive years, they are at a higher risk of developing cancers such as uterine, breast, and ovarian cancer.
