Menopausal Weight Gain

When women are menopausal they often have unexplained weight gain. Whilst exercising and eating the same as they always have menopausal women may find that weight gain is slowly occurring. Consequently menopausal women can become ill humored and upset by their weight gain. Nevertheless there are actions women can take in order to prevent menopausal weight gain.

What causes Menopausal Weight Gain?

Menopausal Weight GainMenopausal weight gain is caused when there is an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone hormones. This causes the body to react in unpredictable ways, and unfortunately for some women deficiency of estrogen weight gain may occur.

How Can I Avoid Deficiency of Estrogen Weight Gain?

There are different ways that women can avoid estrogen deficiency weight gain. However they should first begin by making healthy lifestyle changes, for example it is important they:

  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet, with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grain fibers.
  • Exercise regularly, it is recommended for half an hour a day, five times a week.
  • Drink at least eight small glasses of water a day
  • Sleep for the recommended eight hours
  • Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages, which are both unhealthy and calorie laden.

All of these measures can help to keep a woman healthy and prevent deficiency of estrogen weight gain.

How can I Treat Deficiency of Estrogen Weight Gain?

Nevertheless some women may find that despite their best efforts to prevent deficiency of estrogen weight gain, they are gaining weight. These women should then look at ways to boost their estrogen hormones in order to prevent estrogen weight gain. For example, there are many natural supplements that can help to boost estrogen hormone levels,

Menopausal Weight Gain

  • Maca is a root that grows in the Peruvian and Bolivian mountains. Maca has been shown to balance menopausal women’s estrogen and progesterone hormone levels.
  • Black cohosh is a phytoestrogenic herb that acts as estrogen in the body, and helps to prevent menopausal weight gain.
  • Soy tablets can also help to balance out estrogen hormones and prevent weight gain.
  • Additionally ginger, ginseng, and many other herbs have been reported to assist with estrogen weight gain.

Even so if women are experiencing other menopausal signs and symptoms, beyond estrogen weight gain, there are other medications that can help. Although treatments such as hormone replacement therapy are extreme they are also effective at beating adverse menopausal symptoms. However only women with severe and extreme problems should consider using these.

However if women are experiencing menopausal weight gain and none of the above measures work they should visit their medical practitioner. Weight gain in middle age comes with many associated risks that women should not be blasé about. For example weight gain, especially around the waist, brings with it a large risk of diabetes type-2. Consequently a doctor may be able to diagnose why women are experiencing estrogen weight gain, and target a particular area.
